What's a Money Bowl?
In it’s simplest form, a money bowl is an open container with corresponding herbs, crystals, and/or currency. The open container is important because it represents the flow of money.
To work best, your money bowl should have a moving energy to it. The best way to do this is to give and take from the bowl to keep that energy flowing.
If you do further research on money bowls, you might find people mentioning “feeding” the money bowl; this is simply giving it energy in the form of offerings like lit incense or attention and your desires of what you want to manifest.
Without further ado, lets get into 3 different levels of how you might make a money bowl!
Beginner
My first beginner money bowl had just a few things in it: rice, mint, basil and some random rings I had lying around. It wasn’t wild, but it was mine, and dammit did it help! I landed my first job with it, and now I’ll share what I did with you.
- Cleanse your bowl. I believe I use dollar tree incense for this, but if you have the money, get an actually decent brand like Satya. If you can’t get that, check out our recent blog here about other methods of cleansing.
- Add your rice. Depending on the culture you hail from the associations will be slightly different, but generally rice is associated with the harvest, prosperity, blessing and abundance. It is also associated with the element of earth (which is excellent for grounding purposes) and the sun, so it has a bight, shining energy to it.
- Add your mint and basil. For my mint I cut open a tea bag, which will work just fine for this. Both mint and basil have air associations, so these will be good at calling in your abundance. Speak you intentions over these plants as you add them.
- Add your coins. I added quarters here due to their silver color. You can definitely use your intuition here. Go with an items that represent money or wealth for you.
Intermediate
For an intermediate bowl, I would follow similar steps to the beginner bowl except this time add some color magic, crystals and written intent into it. Good crystal choices include green aventurine (which you can read more about here), carnelian, pyrite and clear quartz.
Write down what you want from a prosperity perspective.
Remember, money bowl is more of a catch-all term. Write down what you want to buy with that money, what gifts you want to give to your family, that new car your saving for!
Breaks can come in many forms including sales and unexpected gifts, so be open to this and don’t cut them off in your requests!
Expert
This is where an altar might come in. Crystal towers with money associations, animal figurines associated with prosperity and fertility, oils, plants and spirits you go to for prosperity help all belong here!
That prosperity jar spell you made a year ago? That belongs here. Your favorite windowsill basil plant you’ve had for the past 10 years that just. won’t. stop? She belongs here too.
These can be as elaborate or low key as you desire, but the point here is LAYERS!
A reminder for you – everyone’s money bowl will look a little different. Just because someone has a “beginner” level money bowl doesn’t mean theirs won’t be incredibly effective, so just keep that in mind when you build yours! There is no truly wrong way to do magic!
