Crystals are one of the most eye-catching parts of witchcraft, yet it's also one of the most overwhelming! With so many colorful and sparkling varieties, it’s hard to know where to start.

Selenite
Selenite is one of the most important stones for a beginning witch. It’s a cleanser, and vital to keeping your crystals clean and ready for your next project.
Consider investing in a selenite bowl to cleanse your crystals in after you’ve used them, or use a selenite bar to break ties with energies that no longer serve you and cleanse your energetic field.
Red Jasper
Red jasper is a brick red stone, often shot through with white, tan, or black veins.
It’s a powerful tool for rooting you into reality, turning up your fire for life, and protecting your physical self.
I carried a piece in my pocket for years as a worry stone to help me focus and keep me safe.
Carnelian
This bright orange stone often has cream inclusions, and polishes to a beautiful shine.
It’s associated with creativity, brightness, and sexual vitality.
Place a piece in your workspace to encourage creative problem solving, or next to your bed if you want to warm up your sex life and help work through sexual traumas.
Citrine
Known as the merchant’s stone, this variety of quartz is a buttery yellow. Darker yellow to amber versions of it are heat treated (originally amethyst, which we'll get to later), but they have the same properties.
It’s a stone of luck and money, so use it in a money bowl or slide a tumble of it in your change purse.
Another little-known property of it is its power to uplift depressive moods and help you see the bright side of life. It will remind you to make your own luck.
Green Aventurine
This soft green stone is associated with the heart. It will help you process emotions and open your heart to growth.
It’s also a known stone for bringing in power, money, success, and m ore material forms of growth.
This is another good one to add to that money bowl, or add to your self care routine!
Lapis Lazuli
This dark blue stone often has inclusions of bright gold pyrite and has been renown since ancient cultures.
If you’re looking for a stone that targets your third eye, this is it. Intuition, wisdom, and knowledge are all lapis lazuli’s powerhouse.
Place it on your desk as you study to help retain what you’re learning or try meditating with it!
Amethyst
Another form of quartz, this stone ranges from lavender to dark purple.
It soothes headaches, eases insomnia, tunes you into your spiritual side, and helps break patterns of addiction.
I sleep with a piece of it under my pillow. It’s also one of my personal favorites! Admittedly, I have a piece of amethyst anywhere a person can put a rock, including on my desk and in my bedroom to increase calm in my spaces.
Black Obsidian
Obsidian comes in many colors, but its most common form is black.
It is a powerful protective stone, known for releasing blockages on any plane. It is also amazing for increasing self-control and keeping boundaries strong.
If you feel invaded on any level, this is the stone for you!
Try placing it in the corners of your rooms or on your windowsill to ward off negative energies.
Clear Quartz
Clear quartz is one of the most important stones for healing you can find.
It amplifies and channels any other energy, and also helps to promote clarify of mind!
Use a quartz point to target any aches and pains you have to channel those energies away, or pair it with another stone to amplify that energy.
Tiger’s Eye
The shimmering brown bands of tiger’s eye represent courage, strength, and fearlessness.
This is the stone for anyone who deals with fear and anxiety.
Wearing a piece of tiger’s eye jewelry on the daily basis will help you stand up for yourself and power through whatever comes your way.
Rose Quartz
This soft pink quartz is a famous stone of love, most specifically self-love.
If you know you need to be gentler with yourself, heal some inner trauma, or forgive yourself for past wrongs, then this is the stone for you.
It can also help you connect to your emotions and positive energies. Its gentle healing energy would make a great addition to your bedside table or dresser.
Rose quartz is also water safe, so feel free to place it in your self-care bath and soak your cares away!
